# nCino Day of Learning: How One Idea Became a Company-Wide Initiative

A year after nCino's first Day of Learning, participation has surged. See how one idea became a company-wide day for growth.

_What began as an idea is now a company-wide initiative, giving our people time to grow. Here’s how it happened._

**“You’ve got to stop and sharpen your own tools in your toolbox,”** said Jennifer Adams, nCino's Global Learning & Enablement Specialist, when asked how nCino Day of Learning came to be.

For most of her 13 years here, she'd spent her days sharpening other people's tools. She traveled the country training our customers on-site, watching learner after learner go from overwhelmed to confident in front of her. Whenever an open week turned up between trips, she'd use it to run "boot camps” for new hires. About three years ago, a shift in her role turned that instinct towards our people and their own professional development.

**What came as a result is nCino Day of Learning**, one full day when we step back from regular work to take courses, earn certifications, and get better at what we do.

The first one was held in June 2025. This June, almost exactly one year later, we held our fourth. It's become a day we look forward to as a company, with more people joining in than ever.

## How the Idea Took Shape

Roughly three years ago, nCino brought its enablement teams, about 70 people across four departments, under one global umbrella. In the shift, Adams moved out of Customer Success, where she had reported for more than ten years, and into People Operations.

From that seat, she could see our employee experience more fully than before, and she kept noticing the same note in employee satisfaction surveys: our people wanted a clearer path to their own professional development. That’s when the idea began to take shape.

The first idea of Day of Learning was purely product-focused, organizing certification days for the nCino Platform across our global offices. Her new peers in People Operations and Talent Acquisition suggested building it around our people and their overall professional development. "That's the part that fires me up," she said, "because I didn't always look at it from that lens."

Soon enough, she was in the boardroom, pitching the idea to the executive team. Her ask was simple: **"Why don't we just take a whole day?"** One full day of protected time for our people to learn — about the company, about the product, about how to grow in their careers, about anything at all. The team handed her a few parameters, like holding it on a Friday, so it wouldn't pull customer-facing teams away from their work. Then they told her to **go for it.**

## A Day That Works Anywhere

## This Quarter, Teams Took the Lead

It took a couple of rounds for people to understand what the day was, according to Adams. Now that they do, they're proactive. Across the company, teams build their own sessions and certifications and time them to launch on Day of Learning.

The day's most popular track was the **Consulting Mindset online certification. **The idea surfaced in Customer Success, where people wanted to think more like consultants. It began as something for that team, but as they built it, it became clear the thinking could be applied company-wide. Day of Learning gave the idea somewhere to land, turning a need raised in one corner of the company into something teams across it could use. The certification drew 35 people that Friday, more than any other track, and has climbed past 60 since.

This kind of work is exactly what our talent development and enablement group does year-round. Andrew Kane, Principal Learning & Enablement Specialist, spotted the need and set the direction. Jamie Scarafino, Principal Learning & Enablement Specialist of Talent & Leadership Development, built out the program itself and managed stakeholders. Lindsey Quick, Associate Director of Talent Experience & Development, kept the cross-team effort on track.

For Katon Blackmon, a Talent Experience & Development Specialist, the certification was one of the first things she helped build. As a new hire, she didn’t take the opportunity lightly. "There's something powerful about an organization that doesn't just talk about professional development but actually dedicates time to it," she said.

The team in Managed Services took their own approach, building a full day’s agenda of their own. Gary Turner, an Associate Manager of Professional Services, saw a chance to give his team dedicated time to get current on nCino's fast-moving product updates. He and Devon Smith, Manager of Professional Services, built the agenda together, polling for topics and lining up speakers. "Across the board, all of our speakers were happy to assist," Turner said.

## What It Means to Our People

For Matt Zeboor, Day of Learning was a chance to get ahead. Zeboor, an nCino University Senior Trainer and a former schoolteacher, spent the first half practicing how to onboard customers and process consumer loans as prep for his first solo training the week after. After, he dropped into an Office Hours session to learn more about nCino Integration Gateway.

Zeboor knew the concept but had never seen it in action. "Learning that much about such a technical topic in one hour was honestly my big surprise of the day," he said. He left the session able to field a customer's questions during training. It was one of the day's most-attended sessions, drawing 127 people across the U.S. and Canada.

> "As a former teacher, having a full day set aside for learning tells me nCino values my knowledge and skill development. It makes it so much easier to fit into an otherwise packed schedule of trainings and prep."

That's exactly what Adams wanted this day to be. She'd seen it in the Employee Experience surveys. People wanted to grow but couldn't always find the time. For Zeboor, the day gave him that time.

## One Year In

A year in, the growth is clear. Logins to LevelUP, our online learning platform for employees, climbed from 278 to 438, and course completions rose from 648 to 815. Certifications earned on the day jumped from 12 to 54, **more than four times** as many in a single year.

Those numbers show up in the work. Product certifications deepen the expertise our customers rely on; professional-development tracks build skills our people can carry through their careers. This time we set aside is valuable across the board, for both our people and for the customers we serve.

A year ago, Day of Learning was an idea Adams had to pitch. Now teams come to her with sessions they want to build. The next two dates, September 18 and December 4, are written on the whiteboard behind her desk and already on everyone's calendar, set months out so the whole company can plan ahead.

What began as an idea has become a fixture here, and we can’t wait to watch the program keep growing.
